“My board doesn’t know what they are doing.”
“I joined the board, but I don’t know what to do now.”
“We’ve got a good board … but I feel like we’re stuck.”
At their best, nonprofit boards are powerful vehicles for change and outreach. They can help secure funding, drive community support, and serve as stewards of the organization’s finances and mission.
At their worst they can range from toxic and unsupportive to detail-obsessed and insular. Stewardship of the mission becomes an allegiance to “tradition” that stifles innovation and change.
But far more often, boards are stuck in a swamp of unclear expectations and murky roles. Board members and staff have different definitions of success – and different opinions on how to address the problems facing the board.
In short, many nonprofit boards need to align their operations – and accelerate their work to be more effective and supportive stewards of the mission.
So, what do you do?
Here’s what I did:
Reach out to insightful nonprofit leaders that have experience in strategy, leadership development, and assessment
Build a program that features evaluation, implementation, and coaching & accountability.
Work with boards that are ready to move beyond a quick training session and provide tailored evaluation and strategy.
This program – Align & Accelerate – is a collaboration between Resolute Philanthropy and Orange Door Consulting.
If your mission deserves a more engaged and committed board - or if your board members are looking for ways to be more effective and connected, then it's time to take action.
