The South Sound chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is launching their mentorship program - and I'm honored to be a part of it!
I was a mentor for several years in the Orange County chapter, and grew to really love the program. Not only does it help early-stage fundraisers with their professional skills and networks, but the mentors also get a chance to practice their coaching and leadership skills.
Most importantly, it's an opportunity to build a community. Fundraisers spend so much time building a community for donors, volunteers, and clients that we often forget to build one alongside our peers. I don't think it's a stretch to suggest that the lack of a supportive and challenging community plays a part in fundraiser burnout, too.
