When I was a chief development officer, there were three things I did to combat burnout within my teams:
📣 Talk about it – by talking about the emotional impact of fundraising, I could encourage my team to share their feelings and thoughts.
🛑 Set boundaries – while I am almost always checking, reading, or worrying about emails, I tried to never send an email to the team after 5pm – and certainly never on a weekend.
🎉 Celebrate victories – recognize and celebrate the victories with the team. Not just gifts that come in, but positive donor meetings, successful events, progress toward goals.
If you want to learn more about ways to address and prevent fundraising burnout, sign up for the Nonprofit Connect panel from Rogue Creatives on April 19.
I’ll be presenting alongside Susan Wright Kenny from UPLIFT Yoga Foundation and Danielle Judd from Farmhouse Rescue.
Hope to see you there!
